What is a Lure Course

Lure Coursing is a performance event developed in the early 70's by sighthound fanciers who hunted jackrabbits in the open field, which risked harm to the dogs by barbed wire fencing. They invented lure coursing as a safer, more controlled sport for sighthounds that would recreate the physical requirements of open field coursing, allowing them to continue testing the functional abilities of their sighthounds. The hounds chase plastic bags on a course laid out to simulate escaping game.

But many dogs love the thrill of the chase – not just sighthounds. It doesn’t matter if your dog is a Chihuahua or a Great Dane or a mix of anything in between – if they love to chase things, they will LOVE Lure Coursing! And even if you think they won’t – many people are very surprised when their dogs go nuts for the lure!!

Lure Course Brevard Background

One day, during a brainstorming session,  Megan Wolgram and a few friends had the idea to invite dog owners to a farm one of them owned to enjoy their beautiful five acres with other dog owners.  But what could they offer as entertainment for dogs and owners?  After much discussion, they stumbled upon the idea of lure coursing. After some research, it was discovered that the nearest place to lure course was 75 miles away! The second closest was in Tampa, which is even further. It was settled, Lure Course Brevard was created, and the rest, as they say, is history

The K9 Kampus Lure Course will be up and running real soon!

We should have Lure available for our daycare and boarders by early September and our weekend Lure Events should start by the end of September.

Don’t worry our events won’t conflict with Lure Course Brevard at Wickham Park.

We are working together to make sure you have Lure available to you as much as possible.
